Home to Otomi people, Queretaro's territory comprises the highland community of El Doctor.  For Holy Week large numbers of  villagers dress up as fariseos (Pharisees) wearing masks made from layers of glued fabric which portray comical men and women,  various animals, as well as death and devils.  Carnival is celebrated in El Pueblito, a mestizo town, where dancers wear devil  masks with large goat horns with geometric markings.
