Guanajuato is a mestizo state with a wide range of mask dramas that have evolved from the state's rich colonial history.   Pastorela dramas for christmas celebrations are common throughout the state with their common cast of characters: devils,  animals, and hermits.  Semana Santa (easter) is celebrated in San Bartolo Agua Caliente with a wide range of fariseo (Pharisees)  masks and in Purisima de Bustos the Holy Week pageant lasts for several days.  One important dance-drama thats endemic to  Guanajuato is La danza del Torito (dance of the little bull) a comical morality play composed of a wealthy hacienda owner, his  ranch hand, the devil, a viejo (old man) and a cast of borrachas (drunken women).
